Classes Offered

imageStone massage training is available for those looking to offer some very unique treatment options.  I teach several continuing education courses as a certified instructor for Stone Medicine LLC.

Jenny Ray, known as White Bear Medicine Woman to her tribal members, is a Native American Indian Shaman who has been taught these methods by her ancestors and created courses to pass on to modern bodywork professionals.  Jenny has traveled around the globe to bring the message of the stones and the “Hollow Bone” way of medicine to the world.

I was fortunate enough to have been chosen and personally invited to learn this work directly from Jenny.  I have been entrusted with this knowledge and have been asked to share the medicine with others as I help to respectfully carry it forward to future generations.  I am certified through Stone Medicine LLC to teach this work.

I currently offer the following courses:

  • Stone Medicine Level 1
  • Rain Bath Ceremony
  • Advanced Rain Bath
  • Healing Hands
  • Winter Warrior: Deep Tissue with Cold Stones
  • Sacred Strokes: Grandmother Cedar
  • Drum Making

Certificates for the massage and bodywork courses are issued through Stone Medicine LLC and will be mailed directly to the student graduates upon completion of the class.

The use of essential oils by indigenous peoples is well documented.  However, there are few of the traditional methods that have survived the generations for use in our modern times.  Lucky for us, the Assinaboin and various factions of the Sioux Nations have preserved this ancient healing modality known as Rain Bath Ceremony.

Not to be confused with the modern day Rain Drop Technique, Rain Bath Ceremony is an ancient form of body work and aroma therapy intended to rebalance the physical through affecting the nervous system with plant oils, aromas, and healing stones.  This treatment is a very gentle and non-invasive method of alleviating stress and anxiety, helping to restore balance to the body's chemistry.

A variety of physical ailments can be affected by the energies of essential oils.  Rain Bath Ceremony cleanses, protects, nurtures and enhances the nervous system.  This is a neurological treatment that assists the body with detoxification, eloquently blending modern science with ancient tradition.

In this workshop, students learn the background of this ritual and the history of the herbal energies.  Each herb used for creating the essential oils is fully discussed in spiritual terms as well as scientific, allowing them to fully understand how to work with essential oils of the Rooted Ones in combination with the Stone Tribe.

The students will have an opportunity to perform the entire process on one another and will be prepared to offer this treatment modality to their clients, family and friends by the conclusion of the class.  In the professional spa setting, this is a one hour treatment.  Specific stones are used for various aspects of the therapy and a variety of temperature ranges are explored.

A kit of specific therapeutic grade essential oils and stones can be purchased by the students.  Each kit will offer approximately 12 treatment sessions, allowing the students the opportunity to profit quickly from their new knowledge.  The instruction manual is included in the course fees.  All items are pre-ordered and will need to be shipped prior to the class date.

During this class, ceremonies will be gifted to all participants.  This includes Smudging, establishing an Altar, Calling the Directions, and the Rain Bath Ceremony.  Education on the "Way of the Hollow Bone" and personal development are featured along with the practical application of essential oils as used in this treatment.

This course includes demonstrations, lectures, hands-on practice and ceremonial participation.

This one-day course offers 8 CEUs for professional bodyworkers.

Next scheduled class:

  •   Saturday, September 30, 2017

This class can be scheduled upon request.

Expanding on the foundation of the original Rain Bath Ceremony workshop, this course explores four more treatments with variations on the oil recipes and distinct application methods.  Each set of oils in each recipe was developed to bring specific benefits to the client in an effort to re-balance the body chemistry to achieve that goal.

Each recipe is discussed fully, providing additional treatment options for the practitioner and client to choose from.  While the original treatment focused on detoxification, these new combinations assist with sleeping disorders, depression and sluggishness, stimulating wakefulness, finding dreams and setting goals.

A new kit of specific therapeutic grade essential oils and stones can be purchased by the students.  Each kit will offer approximately 12 treatment sessions, allowing the students the opportunity to profit quickly from their new knowledge.  This kit is different than that of the original Rain Bath Ceremony.  The instruction manual is included in the course fees.  All items are pre-ordered and will need to be shipped prior to the class date.

This course includes demonstrations, lectures, hands-on practice and ceremonial participation.

Healing Hands

8 CEUs approved by NCBTMB
Cost:  $175

Next scheduled class:

  •   Saturday, February 4, 2017

This class can be scheduled upon request.

"Healing Hands" is a term used to describe a variety of wellness methods taught to energy healers throughout the world.  This class reaches into ancient history for its foundation.  Shamans have been offering this form of hands-on, energetic healing for generations.  The most common and popular form of this work at the moment is from Japan and is known as Reiki.

Healing Hands uses a different symbol system than Reiki, yet draws upon the same innate wisdom of the universe to bring about balance for the client.  The symbols used in Healing Hands have been drawn as petroglyphs and pictographs in Native American rock art throughout the Americas.

In this class, students learn how to use those symbols and what they stand for in regards to health and wellness.  Through demonstrations, hands-on practice and a written manual they will learn how to employ this natural and non invasive healing art.  Education on the Native American altar, the Four Directions, smudging, and tobacco prayer ties will serve as the foundation.

Students will participate in ritual and ceremony during an initiation process that will allow them to bring their hands in harmony with Creator’s energy. Students will learn how to incorporate this work into other healing modalities.  Participants will develop an exclusive treatment session that only they can provide, as each person holds the specialty of their own unique hands.

This one-day course offers 8 CEUs for professional bodyworkers.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop.  It is open to anyone, not just professional bodyworkers.

Winter Warrior:  Deep Tissue with Cold Stones

16 CEUs approved by NCBTMB
Cost:  $325

Next scheduled class:

  •  Friday-Saturday, October 20-21, 2017

This class can be scheduled upon request.

Winter Warrior is a deep tissue cold stone massage workshop.  In most Native American traditions, Winter is the time of death and purification.  Because it was considered strong, powerful, and threatening, it was always respected.  When combing cold winter temperatures with the bravery and strength of the warrior, we can fight pain in new and lasting ways.  While the warrior fights the pain battle, the chilled stones bring the hibernation of winter, allowing the client to relax and heal more deeply than with other forms of massage.

The warrior was honored for his swift hunting skills, having learned to make the best shot possible.  This translates into the stone work as the stones are used in the most effective way to offer pain relief quickly and cleanly.  The warrior always moves with confidence and sure footed steps, just at the therapist learns to use firm, confident pressure when offering cold stones.  The hunter floats along the ground on light feet, being sure not to break branches and make noise.  This reminds us that after the stones shift to cool temperatures, we can glide it along the body in such a way that the flow of healing water will be felt by the client.

Using alternating temperatures as the medical profession suggests has proven highly beneficial.  Various layouts and stroke sequences will be explored.  Segments of this treatment session can be added to other modalities.  The flexibility of these strokes will allow the practitioner to offer unique and original treatment plans to address the individual client's needs.

Winter was the bringer of death, and the warrior brought death as well, so they are related in this duty.  To kill only when necessary, but be willing to do so, was thought to be a form of bravery.  The brave Winter Warrior can kill the pain that the client does not need, restoring balance and harmony once again.

Sacred Strokes:  Grandmother Cedar

8 CEUs approved by NCBTMB
Cost:  $175

Next scheduled class:

  •  Monday, March 13, 2017

This class can be scheduled upon request.

'Sacred Strokes' is a term used to describe certain motions, stroke applications, and stone layouts that result in an entire full body treatment.  In the traditions of the Shaman, every stroke is sacred.  They believe that the body is the 'altar' that we have come to serve.  We are the 'Stone Walkers' who have been directed as 'Hollow Bone' servants to bring mobility to the stones.  The humble way we offer the stones is guided by the ancestors' teachings.

Each individual Sacred Stroke course is named for the treatment session that it represents.  These names came through the ancestors of this 'Medicine', often in vision time.  The names brought to mind how a certain animal, plant, ceremony, or item might be 'enacted' on the body with stones.  The names helped explain how the stones could move over the body to bring varying temperatures and pressures in a consistent pattern while offering the specific 'medicine' or 'energy' of the Sacred Stroke.

Adding the knowledge of modern science to the training helps us to understand how complex each motion can be while expressing it simply through the Sacred Strokes.  Because each treatment is so specific and reproducible, they work very well for the clinical and spa settings.

The treatment of Grandmother Cedar uses a variety of stones and temperatures combined with the essential oil of Cedar Wood.  The aroma of Cedar is invigorating and stimulating.  This stroke is very ancient and calls up the ancestors to support the client through difficult life circumstances, reducing stress and anxiety.  It can also help those who are feeling ungrounded, disconnected, unable to concentrate, or apathetic.  This treatment is gentle, comforting, and uplifting.  It is also good for those with jet lag.

Drum Making

Non-CEU
Cost:  $225 (Inlcudes all supplies and materials; all tools provided)

Next scheduled class:

  •  Saturday, April 8, 2017
  •  Saturday, October 14, 2017

This workshop can be scheduled upon request.

Make your very own hand drum!  A new heart beat for Mother Earth is given birth with the creation of every drum.

Most indigenous people have used percussive instruments to set the rhythm of their nations.  Sacred rituals and ceremonies, traditional dances and songs were lead by the drum.  Drum's history reaches past biblical days, past the cave drawings, and echo through the eons of our ancient ones.  In a modern society of specialists and professionals, we have come to believe that only musicians can play the drum.  This is simply not true.  We are connected to the drum through our ancestors and will always feel its power.

During this workshop, students will participate in Shamanic ceremonies to honor all who provide the raw materials for a drum.   The "Sacred Four Legged" that provide the hide and the "Standing Tall Ones" that offer wood for a hoop are recognized in tradition brought forward in "Sacred Circle" as a part of the overall education process.  Students will participate in traditional ceremonial offerings of tobacco and sage during this event.

An altar will be established, supporting each aspect of the drum's birth.  Bringing a new voice to the world is a powerful thing.  Students will learn to use the drum in an honorable way to enhance their spirituality.  The method taught uses the Medicine Wheel lacing of the Sioux nation to recognize the "Four Directions".

This is a one-day crafting workshop.  It does not offer any CEUs.

This workshop is open to anyone, not just professional bodyworkers.

"I have found the Rain Bath Ceremony to be a wonderful and unique service offering to any spa/massage menu. The work speaks for itself once received. Overall, the technique is straightforward and easily followed and the results/benefits are both profound and rewarding. The providers are able to rest assured that this service will meet and exceed their client's expectations and satisfy any desire for overall wellness while being gentle on the practitioner's body. The client is effortlessly able to relax and connect with Self/Creator and to allow for true healing on a level that is thorough and not easily reached through other means. There is beauty about this work that is both simply and complex. It is simple in application and yet very complex when one considers the healing that is achieved. I am both proud and humbled to offer this work to clientele. It is a joy to offer this style of treatment and I highly encourage anyone that is even slightly interested in this type of bodywork to attend a class. You will not be disappointed. The instructor is not only knowledgeable on an anatomical/medical level but also well rounded on an esoteric/holistic standard. Robert is professional and detail oriented. He expresses interest in each individual student on a personal level that insures total understanding of techniques and meaning or purpose behind each step. This work is unique, effective, and beautiful to offer to everyone that is interested in alternative means to find relaxation and healing. There is not enough time to truly express how rewarding and beneficial this therapy is." - A. V.
